BOARDS AND COMMITTEES:

CHURCH COUNCIL

Church Moderator is Chair.  Members are Chairmen (or Designees) of all Boards and Committees, the Pastor, Treasurer, and Clerk.

The Council acts as a focal point for coordination and communications between the Pastor, various boards, committees, and organizations within the Church, and with individual Members, and deals with matters not specifically within the realm of other groups.  It may act as a grievance committee.

CHURCH COUNCIL AD HOC COMMITTEES

Bylaws Committee

has finished it's work of preparing the presenting new Bylaws for the church.

Hospitality Committee

Nancy Bridgewater as Chair, secures different people to prepare and serve an all-church coffee the last Sunday of every month. 

Wedding Committee

Rev. Wingate is activating a committee (Andrea Norton, Kristian Casciato, and Bonnie Bolster) to coordinate arrangements for chapel weddings.  The church has to be changed from a worship format to a wedding format, and if Rev. Wingate is not officiating, someone from the church has to be present for the rehearsal and for the wedding.  Mim Sprague and Nancy Bridgewater, who live near the church, have been active in helping Rev. Wingate.

Website Committee

Merle Wood has put up Bethany's Website for years.  A new website is being designed and implemented by John Grubmuller in cooperation with Rev. Wingate.

Friends of Goffe's Falls

Oversees Media Ministries of the church. This includes gathering and maintaining historical archives for Bethany Chapel and its surrounding community, historically known as Goffe's Falls.  Two historic videos have been produced, a book is planned, and historic community markers are in the works.  The chapel itself is on the N. H. State Register of Historic Places. When the hall is 50 years old in 2008, it, too, will be eligible for the historic register.  "Friends" will oversee the application process, then apply for both the chapel and the hall to be on the National Register of Historic Places.  Preservation of the rich history of Goffe's Falls, alongside the expansion of the Manchester/Boston Regional Airport, is a primary focus of "Friends of Goffe's Falls". 

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION COMMITTEE

Sunday School Supt. is Chair.  Sunday School teachers are members. (2006 - Supt. Gail Morgrage, Teachers: Nancy Knight, Diana Bridgewater, Sam Allen, Patti Boyce, and Nancy Hamel)

Christian Education Committee oversees the operation of the Sunday School and its programs.  It may, from time to time, participate in adult Bible Study and youth programming. 

DEACONS

Chair is elected by Deacons.  (2006 - Diana Bridgewater, Dottie Morgrage, Barbara Cirinione, Pat Smith, and Nancy Knight)

Deacons are involved with spiritual and ecclesiastical matters of the church.  They oversee worship services (including laity participation), assist in administration of Sacraments, implement annual Stewardship Drive, nurture members and friends, and promote evangelization.

DEACONS AD HOC COMMITTEES
Church Bulletin Editor

Bonnie Bolster publishes the weekly worship bulletins, coordinating hymns, special music, baptisms, responsive readings,  scripture readers, birthdays, anniversaries, and meetings/activities. 

Altar Flower Committee

Gloria Myrdek secures a fresh-flower altar arrangement from Jacques Flowers each week.  Sometimes persons will give her a donation and ask that flowers be placed on the altar in memory or honor of someone.  Gloria secures memorial flowers at Christmas and Easter, as well as coordinates flowers for Children's Day.  She secures a red rose for baptisms and new member celebrations. 

Breakfast Committee

Chairs - Dottie Morgrage and Gail Morgrage.  The Breakfast Committee is made up of three teams who take turns putting on a  fundraising breakfast buffet the second Saturday of every month.  Other than pledges, this is the largest single fundraiser of the church.

Parish Nurse Committee

Chaired by the Parish Nurse - offers health checks, home visits, education, and consultation. 

Sunshine Committee

Chairman Nancy Bridgewater sends get well cards to shut-ins, birthday cards, and anniversary cards to church members and  friends. 

Email Prayer Chain

The Pastor oversees and administers a 50-plus-member email prayer chain ministry. Prayer lists are distributed each Sunday morning, including update prayer requests from the entire week. Over fifty persons with cancer are on our list, as well as over thirty on-going prayer needs, and many new requests weekly.

MUSIC COMMITTEE

Functions under direction of Deacons.  2006 - Chair Marlene Ambrister, Pat Smith and Bonnie Bolster. Ex-Officio:  Organist & Choir Director. The Music Committee supplies sacred music for worship and special occasions.  They oversee the selection of an organist and choir director, as well as the activities of the Chancel Choir. 

MISSIONS COMMITTEE

Chairman elected by Committee. (2006 - Barbara Cirincione, Patti Boyce, Karen Maynard, and Warren Barter.)   

The Missions Committee educates and activitates the congregation in mission work within the church, the community, and globally. A food pantry is maintained for the church and community, and food baskets are distributed at Thanksgiving and Christmas.  The Missions Committee undergirds the Sunday School's annual Heifer Project fund drive.  It communicates with Bethany 's sister church in Chinoyi , Zimbabwe , and just started a sponsorship of Dr. Menson Mpofo's student at Midlands State University in Gweru, Zimbabwe.  The Committee hosted Dr. Mpofu for luncheon after church this Spring.  A hugely successful Lasagne Mission Supper and the Wingate Mission Fund was used by the Committee to fund missions. The Missions Committee encourages and coordinates a variety of Prison Ministries at Bethany - sometimes providing meals for Calumet volunteers, clothing for them, and furnishings for apartments they might rent.  Gloria Myrdek makes Release Kits for Christian Aftercare Ministries.  Meals are provided for any member or friend of Bethany who becomes hospitalized or shut-in.

TRUSTEES

Chair is elected by Trustees.  (2006 - Nancy Bridgewater, Sam Allen, David Bolster, Bill Norton, and Dennis Phelps)

The Trustees oversee the church's property and finances.  They administer the business and financial affairs of the Church, including all trust funds.  They approve expenditures and payments of bills by the Treasurer, oversee maintenance and repair of church property, provide proper audit of financial records, recommend salary adjustments of employees, and prepare a budget.   

TRUSTEES AD HOC COMMITTEES
Building and Grounds Committee

Chairman - Sam Allen - oversees and administers building projects, as well as building and grounds maintenance.  This includes all construction projects, whether renovation or new, as well as lawn and grounds maintenance.  Sam Allen and the Pastor run SATURDAY WORKDAYS where Calumet volunteers are secured and supervised.  Transportation and meals are provided for the volunteers and an active ministry is maintained in helping the volunteers as they enter the workforce and establish residences.   

Riccio Garden Committee

Gloria Myrdek supervises plantings in the Riccio Memorial Garden in the front of the church.  

Kitchen Committee

Nancy Bridgewater chairs the Committee:  Roland Raiche, Bonnie Bolster, and Barbara Cirincione The Kitchen Committee oversees space allocation and organization in the kitchen and hall. They take regular inventory of supplies, and make purchases to keep supplies on hand.  

TUESDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY

Rev. Wingate leads an every-Tuesday-morning Bible Study.  All are invited, and those participating are:  Gladys Bennett, Nancy Bridgewater, Barbara Cirincione, Linda Dickinson, Gloria Myrdek, Laura Noyes, Marcia Robinsion, and Karlleen Trembly.

In addition to Bible study, this active group takes on mission projects such as visitation of shut-ins, meal preparations, and occasional wedding set-ups, and also puts together the MONTHLY NEWSLETTER.  They work with with Rev. Wingate in assembling (folding, stamping, and sealing)  the Monthly Newsletter, making sure it is mailed at the Post Office on Goffe's Falls Road.
